We’re seeking a capable clinician, focused on expanding knowledge and skills, who will:
•Consistently provide effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients.
•Manage care and implement treatment plans at a refined skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
•Seek as well as provide feedback for improved clinical practice.
•Assume a beginning leadership role, but seek mentoring in this process. You will work in a 12-bed unit utilizing critical care practice at the intermediate level. The unit is interdependent with the adjacent Neuro ICU. The most common patient population is the intermediate level of care patients from the Neuro ICU; stable neuro trauma patients; stable sub-arachnoid, intraventricular and intracerebral hemorrhage patients; ENT patients with flap reconstruction; and postoperative spine patients. The usual nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assess the physical, psychological, social and cultural dimensions of patients according to professional practice standards and institutional policy/procedures.
•Organize, coordinate and prioritize nursing care activities considering the needs of the patient.
•Implement patient population-specific interventions based on individual patient needs.
•Evaluate the effectiveness of care and coordinate care so patients make progress toward desired outcomes.
•Develop and implement patient/caregiver teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient.
•Provide for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.
•Assume responsibility for the professional development of self, and contribute to and assist with the professional development of others.
•Demonstrate leadership in the delivery of patient care.
•Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
•One (1) year of relevant experience.
•Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
•American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS certification required.

Those hired as either a Clinician 3 or Clinician 4 must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree, possess a specialty certification from a national certifying organization, and meet applicable Career Ladder Behaviors.
