Holy Cross Hospital is seeking a Research Nurse to support the Cancer Institute at Holy Cross Hospital located in Silver Spring, Maryland

* Educates the patients and their families on the research protocol and what the patient responsibilities are. * Interviews patients to collect data on health history and lifestyle practices. * Takes the lead role in patient recruitment. * Reviews new patient records and screens patients for eligibility for participating in research protocol. * Thorough understanding of all protocols, case report forms and study binders. * Reviews to support compliance with regulatory requirements. * Involved in the development of research question, design and methodology in conjunction with the cancer research team. * Assists in writing and/or editing, organization and management of protocols. * May support protocols at Institutional Review Boards (IRBs) at Holy Cross Hospital. * Communicates with the Cancer Institute and other appropriate departments and/or institutions ensuring compliance with regulatory affairs and requirements of relevance to the Institutional Review Boards (IRB), as requested. * Implements study once approvals have been established. * Identifies issues with research design or analysis methodology once protocol implementation has started and monitors for trends in patient response to treatment.Data entry assuring a high level of accuracy within the database. * Develops reports and presents clinical results at local meetings and assist in the preparation of research publication for cancer committee. * Maintains current review of relevant professional literature. * Promotes and maintains communication within the department, and with other disciplines encouraging a collegial environment. * Attends, coordinates, and conducts study record audits and furnishes guidance and assistance as needed. * Assists staff in audit preparation. * Collaborate with the Program Director/Research Director to assess, evaluate and maintain training standards and to address the educational needs of the staff. * Provide regulatory guidance and in-services to employees as requested. * Adheres to legal, professional and ethical codes with respect to confidentiality and privacy, exhibiting a high degree of personal professional conduct. * Attends meetings, conferences, professional activities, and training, as directed or required. * Travels to other program locations as needed.
Performs other duties as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks; ability to learn and become proficient in data acquisition and clinical responsibilities related to research protocols; excellent interpersonal skills. Experience in Oncology. Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree in nursing. Current licensure by the Maryland State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner. Sufficient healthcare nursing experience: 3-5 years nursing; prefer active practice within the past 5 years.
