Trauma Chief Physician Assistant

To perform, under the responsibility and supervision of the surgeon, diagnostics and therapeutic tasks to allow the physician to extend his/her services through the more effective use of his/her knowledge in the sphere of decision making required to establish a diagnosis and to plan therapy. He/she may assist in gathering the data necessary in implementing the therapeutic plan of the surgeon. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range on their assigned clinical area. Additionally, the physician assistant will act as the patient advocate in the medical care systems serving as confidant, advisor, and liaison between patients and physicians. In addition to those duties described in the Physician Assistant (Trauma) job description, offers assistance to the Director of Trauma by assuring a smoothly coordinated effort in instituting given departmental policies and by identifying, communicating and assisting in the solution of departmental problems. Reports directly to the Director of trauma for all patient-care-related functions. Charting privileges will be determined by the Procedure and Medical Records Committee as recommended by the surgeon. Deals directly with the medical staff members, nursing personnel and other departments to coordinate patient care requirements.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP- approved physician assistant program, eligible or certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants and eligible or certified by the State Board of Medicine. Satisfactorily completed formal training as surgical assistant or currently hold a position which commands comparable respect by virtue of equivalent work experience and training.

GEISINGER-COMMUNITY MEDICAL CENTER (G-CMC), Scranton, Pa., is an acute care hospital licensed for 297 beds and houses the only Level II Trauma Center in Lackawanna County and Scranton’s only neurosurgery program and adult in-patient behavioral health unit.
