Director of Advanced Practice Providers | University of Minnesota Physicians | Minneapolis, MN

University of Minnesota Physicians seeks a Director of Advanced Practice Providers. In this role, the Director of Advanced Practice Providers directs and provides organizational support for Advanced Practice clinicians which results in improved efficiency and effectiveness of care delivery.

The incumbent will be responsible for establishing guidelines and processes for hiring, for assuring initial and ongoing competency, and for assuring that all advanced practice providers are working toward the highest level of their licensure. The role also assists with creating and implementing care model delivery changes and will serve on the Advance Practice Credentialing committee. 

Lastly, the Director establishes and reviews metrics to ensure that practice is always evidenced-based and is responsible for working in collaboration with all partners, including the Medical School, Nursing School, UM Physicians, and University of Minnesota Medical Center.

Core Responsibilities:

• Serves as a resource to drive best practice and appropriate utilization of APRN/PA group
• Assists the clinic manager/medical director in interviewing and hiring APP’s
• Serves as a resource for clinic managers for initiating and tracking credentialing process for providers.
• Designs and sustains organizational structure, which ensures support and accountability for this group.
• Designs and sustains evaluation process for APP's across UMP
• Creates a system for ongoing evaluation for each Advanced Practice staff member via clinic leadership.
• Coordinate efforts between Ambulatory Clinics, Inpatient and Academic Departments
• Provides input into budget development, which affects Advanced Practice Staff development and rewards
• Develops business plans/proformas with predictable and measurable outcomes  to manage all incremental requests
• Works to ensure equitable distribution of Advanced Practice resources across the system to ensure exceptional patient experience and outcomes
• Data analysis and presentation to clinical operations and medical director leadership as necessary
• Directs clinical placement of APP students in collaboration with FV/U of M school of Nursing/clinical operations
• Delivers direct patient care clinically in the specialty of experience/interest.

The minimum qualifications for this role are:

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Adult Practitioner training program or a graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program. 
• Current/Eligible MN RN license and be approved by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges or a PA license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice. 
• Certified through ANCC/AANP or NCCPA.
• 5 years of leadership experience working directly in a healthcare environment that utilizes APRN/PA roles. Proven leadership and ability to impact change in a complex health care system
• Advanced computer skills and proficiency with Word and Excel. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent working knowledge of the APRN/PA scope of practice. Ability to help develop sound business and financial plans as it relates to the utilization of the APRN/PA role
• Ability to build and sustain business relationships. Proven ability to collaborate across health care settings. Desire to help drive the success and leverage of the APRN/PA role within a complex academic healthcare setting.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Doctorate in Nursing (DNP)
• 5+ years Management in Health care delivery system. Experience working with and/or overseeing APRN/PA roles. Previous experience in an academic health care setting
• Prior experience building/ managing care model teams with the utilization of the APRN/PA role.
• Prior work experience in an academic health care setting.
• Experience in the APRN/PA role coupled with leadership and management
