Job Description:
University of Minnesota Physicians seeks a Certified Physician Assistant or Certified Nurse Practitioner to join the University of Minnesota Health Pediatric Neurology team. In this role, you will work with a collaborative team of physicians, nurses and administrative staff to provide comprehensive health care and plan of care within the Neuroscience Service Line and Women's and Children's Service Line. Patients are cared for at the Masonic Children's Hospital on the West Bank.
Initially, this position is inpatient focused and as experience gained establishment of an independent outpatient practice is encouraged. As the position progresses, opportunities for an independent outpatient clinic will be supported. The PA or NP is an experienced member of the health care team who uses advanced practice skill with the supervision/collaboration of licensed physicians to provide comprehensive health care services to pediatric neurology patients.
This includes but is not limited to history and physicals, daily progress notes, imaging
and laboratory result evaluation, discharge orders, planning and summaries. Coordination of an inpatient video EEG monitoring and quality control of nursing monitoring practice. APP will lead patient signout, as well as provide continuity of care to patients, during schedule rotations of attending physicians, residents, and medical students.
The PA or NP functions as a communication liaison between patient/family, consultants, and multi-professional teammates. The PA or NP provides appropriate support and training for management of pediatric neurological conditions to inpatient nursing staff. As a member of the team of Pediatric Neurology Team, the PA/NP actively collaborates with and mentors medical students, residents, and fellows.
Participation in clinical research and quality improvement projects are encouraged and will be supported. APP is encouraged to participate and present in national scientific and clinical conferences. APP positions receive CME funds each year.
The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday with some weekend and call coverage which receives differential pay.
Position Qualifications:
A qualified candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and formal Nurse Practitioner training program or a graduate of an accredited Physician's Assistant program. Have a current MN RN license and be approved or eligible by the Minnesota Board of Nursing for prescription writing privileges or a current PA license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice. Be certified through ANA / AANC or eligible for ANA/AANC national exam or through the NCCPA and meet threshold criteria/qualifications for Credentialing and Privileges.
Preferred Qualifications:
New graduate and experienced candidates with pediatric neurology, PICU or NICU experience encouraged to apply.
